Every month of every year, our consistent forums for your continuing education and inspiration

are made possible through the generous support of a local partner. 


Online credit card registration payments will be accepted no sooner than 90 days prior to each event.  Check and cash payments are accepted anytime.

Refund Policy:  A full refund of registration fees will be provided if cancellation of the registration is reported to the administrative office in writing (info@pgrtaz.org or 602-840-2900) prior to the RSVP deadline, generally the Thursday prior to the event, or as noted in each event details posting.  Registration fees will be payable if cancellation not received as noted above for pending registrations/no shows.

(Please note:  This refund policy does not apply to the annual Planned Giving Conference event.  Refund policy for this event will be specific to this event and is noted in the details of the event posting)

    "Structuring Gift Planning Stewardship Conversations"


    Facilitated by Jason Shuba

    This session will help participants move past pleasantries and organize their planned gift stewardship conversations with a five-step structure that’s deployable across meetings. Sample language will be offered for each step of the structure, with an emphasis on enabling participants to follow up appropriately to a number of donor responses. After completing the session, participants will be better able to update the value of revocable deferred gift commitments, address inadequate past stewardship activity, and remedy internal problems related to a recorded planned gift commitment.

    "Donor Stories in Planned Giving Marketing"

    Donor Stories in Planned Giving Marketing - To Use or Not to Use

    The planned giving industry assumes that donor stories are an effective way to inspire other donors and to increase engagement, including response, in marketing materials. But what is it about donor stories that inspires prospective donors to make gifts? Could certain donor stories have the opposite effect and decrease engagement and response?

    To date there has been no formal, large-scale research study conducted on planned giving marketing materials to support or counter those assumptions—until now. The Pentera research study to be presented analyzes two key e-mail metrics: The click-through rate and the response rate from tens of thousands of eNewsletters that went to millions of prospective donors over several years. The study includes the surprising key finding that certain types of donor stories can actually decrease response rates. Based on the findings of the study, we will recommend when to use donor stories in marketing materials and when not to as well as what types to avoid. Guidelines are presented on how to write effective donor stories and donor blurbs to get the best response rates possible.

    "Looking Ahead to 2022 - Tax Law Changes"

    Much has happened in recent months, but in some ways it also feels as though time has stood still. We will talk about recent legislation, IRS rulings and regulations, and court decisions having to do in one way or another with charitable gift planning. We will touch lightly on some and drill down on others.

       OBJECTIVES: 

    • Some unexpected nuances to how the "unlimited" itemized deduction for cash gifts to (b)(1)(A) charities interacts with gifts subject to lower percentage limitations. Should you elect less than all? how much less
    • Strategies to avoid issues of indirect self-dealing and excess business holdings in transferring closely held business interests to a private foundation or a charitable lead trust. Whether forgoing deductions for a transfer to a split interest trust might allow you to escape the private foundation excise tax regime altogether.
    • What strategies are still available for working around the $10k limitation on the deduction for state and local taxes. What the syndicated conservation easement decisions tell us about substantiation.

    For many of your donors, their home is their most valuable assets.  Most likely they plan to live there for many more years.  But imagine if your donors could contribute their personal residence to your organization, receive a generous income tax deduction for their gift, and never have to call the movers?

    It’s not a make-believe.  The retained life estate is a gift plan that allows donors to donate their home or farm while retaining the right to use it for the rest of their lives.

    In this session we will:

    • Review the basic structure of a retained life estate
    • Discuss the variables affecting the charitable deduction
    • Examine important gift acceptance considerations for the charity
    • Review the profile of a prospective donor with examples
