Build/Refresh Skills

Simple steps to introduce donors and volunteers to planned giving.

This session demystifies, simplifies and de-anxietyafies the whole concept of the “ask.” Special emphasis will be place on how much to prepare, how to coordinate/excite volunteers, how to conduct an integrated ask and where to start first. Attendees will leave with tangible action steps, new language and memorable analogies which can be put to use immediately.

Attendees of this session will learn,
or refresh, the structural and technical elements Taxes and Compliance for Non Profits, including distinguishing between types of exempt entities, the core rules for income tax deductions for gifts to charity from both the donor and charity perspective, and the key compliance and reporting rules that charities must understand including annual exempt organization tax returns, and forms regarding gift documentation and sales of gifted assets.

This information will build into our second Nuts and Bolts breakout session: Split Interest Gift Structures

Thank You:

Attendees of this session will learn, or refresh, the structural and technical elements of a gift annuity contract, and charitable remainder and charitable lead trusts.

The Nuts and bolts of the income tax impacts were covered in the Nuts and Bolts: Taxes and Compliance for Non Profits earlier in the Forum. This session will spend more time understanding the gift and estate tax deductions.

That information may be used to work through specific examples and calculations for structuring a charitable gift annuity, a charitable remainder trust, and a charitable lead trust.
